Alois "Louis" Ficenec 1897-1967 Alois ('Louis' here in the US) immigrated to the United States from Bohemia in in 1914. What we know so far of him: Alois arrived on June 26, 1914 on the ship Aquitania that departed from Bremen, Germany. It lists him as a 17-year-old, single man from Austria. It lists his nearest relative as his mother, Anna, back in Europe. è Passenger List from the Aquitania We found Louis' World War I Draft Registration Card, which lists him from Chicago, Illinois, and has his birthdate as December 11, 1897. Passenger records at Ellis Island show Anna Ficenecová emigrating to the US in 1920. She arrived on December 3 on the ship Celtic that departed from Liverpool, England. It lists her as a 54-year-old, married Czechoslovakian woman from Brod, Czechoslovakia. Presumably this is Louis' mother, although the passenger record for the Celtic says she's coming to join her daughter, Mrs. Victor Steiner, in Chicago. The 1930 Census finds Louis and his family in Chicago, Illinois, where Louis is a barber. It shows that Louis, then 33, and his wife, Margie, then 30, were married around 1920. They have two sons, Robert, age 8, and Eugene, age 7, living with them - and both boys were born there in Illinois. è 1930 Census page from Chicago Louis died in Chicago in May of 1967.
