Charles J. Ficenec
1873-1965 Charlie was the seventh child of Jan Ficenec. He was born Plasi, a small farm-town in Saunders County, Nebraska on April 4, 1873. There's a book from the Nebraska State Genealogical Society - Past and Present of Saunders Co., NE - which has a chapter, 'The City of Wahoo' with a section that reads, "In 1882 a private bank of Lyle & Collins was organized with officers: E. E. Lyle, Henry Hastings and C. A. Collins. Later members were J. M. Ohslund, Emil Benson and C. J. Ficenec." Yet according to family lore, Charlie had a bit of a checkered past. Once he landed in jail, and his brothers John & Frank each paid $200 for his bail, but his brother Joe reputedly would contribute any because "he should have known better." No mention is made of why he was in jail... Charlie married a woman named Mary A. Rehak (4/5/1879), and they lived on a farm near Elliot. They had four children. Mary died at the age of 48 (12/22/1927) of a cerebral hemorrhage. He then said to have moved to Nebraska and married "a well-to-do widow" in Weston. He also is supposed to have left owing his brother Frank a thrashing bill... Charles died Nov 2, 1965 in Lincoln, Nebraska at age 92 and is buried in the St. John's Cemetery, Weston, (Saunders County), NE next to his wife.
