John, born October 29, 1938 in Olmsted County, MN, is the child of Adolph & Lucille Ficenec.  (Minnesota Birth Index, 1935-2002)  He is a professor at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg, Virginia.

He married Kathleen G. Siegmund (1938) in 1959.  John and Kathy both grew up 2 doors down from each other on the same block in St. Cloud Minnesota, where John's parents ran a little store.
