Frank J Ficenec 1868-1947 Frank was the sixth child of Jan Ficenec. According to the 1910 Census, he was born in Iowa, but family records show he was raised in Plasi, a small farm-town in Saunders County, Nebraska. He married Mary Novotny from the neighboring town of Weston on August 7, 1894. Mary was born to Jon & Anna (Dobrovsky) Novotny, both emigrants from the Bohemia area (see biography link below). Frank & Mary had six children: two who died as infants, one who died in his early 20s, and three who grew up and had families. è biography of Mary Novotny's parents All of their children were born in Weston, which seems to indicate that the young couple moved to the area near Mary's family, possibly even onto their farm for a time. However, the 1910 Census has the family farming near Vivian Township, in Sargent County, North Dakota and they have four children living with them at the time: Frank (14), Emil (11), Blanche (7) and Ethel (3). It appears that Frank & Mary moved there shortly after having Ethel. è 1910 Census page from Nebraska The 1920 Census has the family still farming near Vivian Township, in Sargent County, North Dakota with the four children living with them: Frank (24), Emil (21), Blanche (16) and Ethel (12). It lists both Frank J. and his son Frank as farm hands on "several farms". è 1920 Census page from Nebraska All three surviving children were married in St. Vincent's Church in Stirum, a small town nearby. Frank died in 1947, and is buried in the Stirum Cemetery. Mary died in 1966 in Oakes, North Dakota, but is buried back at their hometown in the Stirum Cemetery.
