John George Ficenec 1859-1943 John was the first child of Jan Ficenec, and actually born in Bohemia on June 25, 1859, presumably in the little village of Kunčice, in the Hradec Králové area of ancient Bohemia (what is now the northern and western two-thirds of the Czech Republic). He immigrated to the United States with his parents in 1863. He married Katerina Sykora, and they had four children: Joe, John Jacob, Frank and a daughter, Barbara, who became the nun Sister Mary Genevieve de Notre Dame. At some point, John moved to the Omaha, Nebraska area, where many of his descendants still live. He was an officer in a Bohemian lodge there, and traveled around on lodge business. Information Source: Partner Submission: Clara (Ficenec) Janousek John died January 26, 1943, and is buried in the cemetery at St. Mary's in South Omaha. His wife, Katerina, died July 7, 1933, and is also buried at St. Mary's. è Obituary from Catholic Workman Association newspaper
