Basically, we're looking for Ficenec's (or former Ficenec's,
like myself) who are willing to do the research legwork on their 'branch' of
the family tree. This means starting with your own family, and working
your way backward as far as you can - and don't worry if another partner's
work overlaps yours; different people find different details. And
details are what we need! It's nice to know who your great-grandfather
was and where he came from, but it's even nicer to know that he served in
the military, married his high-school sweetheart, was the county treasurer
from age 34-42, once got three blue ribbons at the county fair for his
produce, use to dress as Santa for the local orphanage, etc.
Some things we can do for the partners:
E-mail - Since you will do a lot of communication and research, we
can provide you with a ficenec.com e-mail address to use, so you don't have
to be giving out your home one. This can happen one of three ways:
1) As a vanity name that actually bounces to you
current e-mail name. The way this works is you give out
'yourname@ficenec.com', and when someone uses it, the e-mail is forwarded to
whatever e-mail you really use. The upside: you don't have to
learn or do anything new to use this. The downside: when you reply to
them, it will come from your home e-mail, and then they have that.
2) As an e-mail service online. The way this
works is you give out 'yourname@ficenec.com, and then check this e-mail
account online using the password we'll provide. The upside: you can
reply to people using the 'yourname@ficenec.com' address, and keep your home
one safe. The downside: If you use an e-mail program at home, such as
Outlook, these e-mails won't be in it.
3) As a POP3 service. The way this works is you
set up an account in your home e-mail program, such as Outlook, to send and
receive your 'yourname@ficenec.com' e-mails using the information and
password provided. The upside: you get to continue using e-mail the
way you are use to, but have an address solely for being our partner.
The downside: if you don't already know how to set up a POP3 account (or
have someone who can do it for you), you'll need to learn a little bit about
your e-mail program (but we'll help!).
Website - we can provide you with storage and access for a personal
website. It would have a 'yourname.ficenec.com' address, and you would
have sole rights to access and development. We would have to charge a
nominal fee to pay for the storage, but I guarantee it will be less than
other pay services out there...
Suggestions - since we've been working on this for a while, we can
provide help in getting started, or when you are stuck. Also, we'll
have a group e-mail for the partners to share and ask questions of each
other.
if you'd like to apply to be a partner. It will bring up a form to
fill out. Just let us know a little about who you are, and how you fit
into the family. We'll get back with the other details.
